about
I have always understood Jesus as someone who lived a life of radical, unconditional LOVE, practiced peaceful resistance within an unjust social and religious system, and who healed and fed everyone around him.
HEAL US came out of my spirit during the long days when I was bearing witness to the most Jesus-like person I've ever known, my beloved father, leaving this earth.
Y'all, it took three excruciating months, and so many miracles I can't begin to explain them even to myself, but as if in a dream, Dad was flown to the US from a hospital in Israel on a stretcher and brought by road ambulance from New Jersey to Florida in the middle of a hurricane. I scream-sang this song across an intensive care ward, tears streaming down my face while Dad lay motionless, a tube poking out of his throat, silently fighting for his life, squeezing my hand. This song carries all the pain and anguish and rage and love I felt while I stood there in full hazmat gear, feeling completely alone and powerless. A nurse walked in to check his vitals and said to me "Your singing is beautiful and it's soothing him, don't stop." I'll always be grateful for that.
I'd originally planned to make this one donation only, but instead I'm gonna do this: I pledge to donate EVERY CENT to support others who are raising money to help their loved ones, in any capacity.
May we all be well, may we be at peace, may we never doubt that we are loved, unconditionally.
Happy birthday, Dad, you showed me the beautiful horrors of eternity and I will love you there and back, forever.
Thank you, Jeremy, for seeing me and hearing me. I am blessed to call you my producer and my friend.
